GOLD PRODUCTION - China Gold Mining

China is the world's largest gold producer. China produced nearly 300 tonnes of gold in 2008. Gold mining in China dates back to the Song dynasty.

2007 China Gold Mines yeilded 276 tonnes (South Africa produced 272 tonnes pf Gold in 2007)

South Africa had until then been the largest gold producing nation for 101 years straight! South Africa was the largest gold producing nation from 1905-2006.

South African gold production fell by 50% in the past decade. (depleted mines & safety regulations)

Chinese gold production has risen by 70% in the past decade. (rapid capital expansion and low costs of labor)

China National Gold Group Corporation (CNGGC) - which accounts for 20% of total gold production in China and holds 30% of gold bullion reserves.
